I recently took a winter trip to London and stayed at the Courthouse Hotel Shoreditch. When in London I love to stay in Shoreditch because of its central location, great restaurants and arty vibes. I would highly recommend it as there are so many bus stops and great access to the tubes. The area is full of things to see and do, and there is great history on every street.
When I was looking for hotels I fell in love with the Courthouse Hotel Shoreditch because it once was the Old Street Magistrates Court and police station building, with great history and 1903 original features, including the prison cells that the Kray twins were held, in 1965. I really loved the courthouse inspired furnishings and interiors that the five-star hotel has implemented to carry the original heritage but with a modern twist, as the hotel has its own pool, roof terrace, gym, cinema and bowling alley. As you can see the entry to the hotel is just beautiful.
Overall I would really recommend this hotel to people visiting London and Shoreditch, it is a little piece of history and luxury right in the center of London!
Double rooms are from £189 per night in low season; and from £490 in high season. Breakfast is included and there is free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel.
The Courthouse Hotel Shoreditch has a great selection of rooms for all needs, I stayed at two different Hoxton Studio Suites whilst visiting the hotel in November 2017, one in the older part of the hotel and one in the new part. Both I have to say were amazing, modern and extremely comfortable and quiet, which is what I personally look for in a hotel. The management team were extremely helpful in making sure me and my husband had a great trip and were extremely accomodating.
The Hoxton Studio Suite – Old Building
When we stayed in the older magistrate building we had a room on the third floor, which had gorgeous round windows, with a little view of the city. The rooms are very spacious and the interiors are gorgeous. The bed was a great size and very comfortable, and great to sit in and watch the large TV. The room also had a good size wardrobe and a little seating area, of course with a safe, mini fridge and complimentary tea and coffee. I loved the carpet in the room, as living in Dubai we have tiles everywhere and it was so cosy during the cold weather. I would definetly say that the rooms are very high in standard, and very similar to what we are used to in Dubai.
The bathroom was very modern, with a walk in shower, heated towel rail and great lighting for doing my makeup.
The Hoxton Studio Suite – New Building
In terms of room styles, I personally preferred the Hoxton Studio Suite in the new building, it was absolutely huge and felt very much like a studio apartment. As you can see the interiors are gorgeous, and the mood lighting was great. The room has its own little sitting room with TV, and it was nice to chill in this area with a cup of tea or glass of wine after a long day walking around London.
The bathroom was super spacious and modern, I also loved the bath tub. It really was a great size for a hotel bathroom in London and probably one of the best I have experienced in a hotel!
Our package included breakfast, which I have to say was great and I loved the interiors of the breakfast room, which was originally the sentencing room. The selection was pretty much the same everyday but this didn’t bother me, there was fruits, cereals, yoghurts, juices, pastries, hot breakfast, cold cuts and tea and coffee – all was very delicious. You can also request for certain egg styles if you don’t like what is on offer.
The Main Restaurant
As I mentioned the hotel has some great facilities and the main restaurant includes the jailhouse bar, with its own mixologist. The interiors are just fab, and I love the old courthouse inspired theme that runs throughout, as well as the gorgeous leather sofas. The restaurant also includes the cells that once held gangsters Ronnie and Reggie Kray before they were charged, which are great for a group booking!
Unfortunately when I visited in November the rooftop was closed for the winter months, which was a shame as it has some really great views. If you are staying during the summer make sure you have a drink upstairs and enjoy the gorgeous view of London town.
Even though I would say that the Courthouse Hotel Shoreditch is quite like boutique hotel, it has all the facilities of a five star hotel and more. I mean, have you ever been to a hotel in London that has its own pool, cinema and bowling alley?
- The pool is indoors and heated, I didn’t get chance for a swim but it looked great.
- A sauna, steam room and gym is also accessible for hotel guests.
- The bowling alley has two lanes and can be rented out at an extra charge, but the space was great and included a ping pong table, seating area and bowling shoes.
- The cinema was impressive, and can hold up to 196 people.

The hotel literally has a bus stop right outside and just over the street.
The closest tube station is Old Street, which is a 5-7 minutes walk away.
We also loved using Uber, which is easily accessible all over London.
