Santorini is just one of those places that I love everytime I visit and there is something so special about the island that you can’t help but just fall in love. My most recent trip was in July, and I chose to stay at the Belvedere Santorini in Firostefani because of it’s insane views, location and large swimming pool (for Santorini standards). If you are planning a relaxing and romatic trip as a couple, and looking for memorable views then I highly recommend Belvedere Santorini, a boutique style hotel – it was a holiday dream come true. July is supposedly part of the high season, but honestly we didn’t find it too busy, but maybe in the low season it would be a lot more quiet.
Bookings & Flights
Before visiting Santorini we went to Athens for a 3 day trip (check my previous post for all the details). Flying from Dubai on Turkish Airlines to Athens. From Athens we flew with Olympic Air to Santorini, which was great and I highly recommend it. But make sure you book the tickets way in advance, especially during peak times of the year! The flight itself to Santorini is around 40-60 minutes only, with great views of the islands.
We made our Belvedere Santorini booking through Booking.com well in advance as it gets very booked up, and this is the same for the majority of the hotels on the island – BOOK IN ADVANCE!
Airport Pick Up
The hotel kindly organised a pick up for us from the airport in a mini van, definitely go with the shared option as it a lot cheaper, make sure you have cash because you have to pay the driver when he drops you off. Once we arrived at the hotel the views were just breath taking! The porter met us and helped take our luggage down to the reception. There are a lot of steps to go down to the hotel and the pool as it is situated on the cliff side – a great dose of daily exercise!
The Hotel Experience – Belvedere Santorini
Located in the wonderful village of Firostefani, which has to be my favorite place on the island, the hotel has some of the best views ever. I much prefer it to the busier areas of Oia etc. and it is only 10 mins by car to Thira. You can also walk from the village to Thira and Imerovigli – but make sure you have comfortable shoes on!
The pool itself really sold the hotel to me when I was booking my trip. A lot of the hotels in Santorini have very small pools but we were looking for a larger one. We were not dissapointed, we loved the pool and the amazing views it had. We spent most of our days relaxing by it and enjoying the summer sun. However, the pool was a little chilly sometimes but quite refreshing after sitting in the sun. Loved the sun loungers too!
The pool bar and staff were great, you can order drinks and food all day and have it at your sun lounger.
The small breakfast buffet is laid out next to the pool and you can enjoy sitting on the terrace area over looking the wonderful caldera view. The view was one of the main highlights, everywhere you look at the Belvedere Santorini the view is just picture perfect! The breakfast itself was ok, I wouldn’t highly rate it and I think that the hotel could do better being 5*. It was disappointing to see that there were no halal options for my husband and some of the dishes were very bland. I think it would have been better if guests had the option to order their hot food fresh as some dishes were cold sitting in the buffet. Coffee at breakfast was from the machine and I feel that the hotel could have provided fresh coffee as part of breakfast however, to get a latte or a cappucino was an extra cost.
Our Room – The Double Cave Room
Our room at Belvedere Santorini was fantastic, it was everything I had dreamed of as a cave room. It really makes the experience if you book a cave room when you are on the island. Our room was huge and had a living room area + fridge, TV, kettle and a large bedroom with a wardrobe and dressing table. Unfortunately the AC is a single unit that sits in the living room so make sure you cool down the room. The bathroom has a nice shower but because it is open the floor does get quite wet – ask for extra towels. But overall a dream come true, I loved waking up and walking out to these amazing views of the island. It was just perfect!
As it was my birthday the hotel arranged a lovely romatic surprise with roses all over the room. The bed was very comfortable and overall I loved our stay in this cave room it was very quiet. I also loved how we had our own private terrace on the roof, which had insane views (but again quiet a few steps to get there) – I could have sat their all day! The only thing I would say is that this unit of the hotel is away from the main part and is about a 3 minute walk from the pool.
The sunsets on the island are just amazing!!
