If you are planning on exploring the beautiful island of Santorini then you must rent a car. There are so many beach clubs in Santorini, so traveling round the island and visiting some of the gems is not to be missed. We loved renting our little soft top mini, it was so fun driving along the beach and cliff roads in the summer sun. It really gives you more flexibility to explore what Santorini has to offer.
Where to Rent a Car in Santorini?
We rented our little white mini from Halaris rent-a-car which was really great and situated in Firostefani just near our hotel, The Belvedere. We rented the car for 3 days and we spent a few days on the beach and also driving round the island. You can call Halaris car rentals directly or book over their website. I would also recommend getting a SIM card when you are in Greece so that you have access to 3G and Google Maps, as it really helped us get around the island and find so many amazing places.
Beaches and Beach Clubs in Santorini
Theros Wave Bar
One of my most favorie spots on the island, the beach set up at Theros Wave Bar is just stunning with views of the Vlychada Volcanic Cliffs and the soft black sand. The drive down to the beach is quite long but so worth it! You can rent sun beds for the day as well as a towel for a charge. There is also an area for parking which was great. I recommend going to this beach club from the morning so that you can enjoy a full day at the beach. Loved that a drinks service was available and there is the most amazing restaurant situated in the buidling above the beach. You must have lunch there the food was so delicious! I could have totally had a second beach day at Theros Wave Bar.
The watermelon and feta cheese salad was insane, and the best I have ever had it was super refeshing. We also loved the pasta and the volcano burger, where the bun on the burger was black. The portions were such a great size. Can’t wait to go back!
Wet Stories Beach Club
Wet Stories in Perivolos is along a beach that has many different beach clubs but it is definetly one of the most popular and buzzing clubs, especially on the weekend. We had a fun day at the club, you can once again rent some bed chairs but get there early on a weekend as it gets busy in the summer. The music was great and it is a place you can spend all day at. Loved the cool chilled set up and the food too – make sure you order their burgers and iced coffee. A tip is bring water shoes because the sea is a little bit rocky.
Akro Beach Club
Located in Akrotiri, Akro is another amazing beach club on a private beach with accessibility to a restaurant, bed chairs and toilets etc. It is a little similar to Theros Wave Bar but a great place to spend a day relaxing on the beach and in the sea or at night in their restaurant and bar. The beach however is mostly made of stones.
The Red Beach Santorini
The Red Beach is a site that you have to see, it is a very touristic spot that is busy but I would recommend going for around 30mins to see it and take photos. The rocks are just stunning! There is a car park area but you have to walk a bit to actually reach the beach side, which has a lot of rocks so wear walking shoes.
